Validators are crucial participants in the Vana ecosystem, responsible for maintaining the security, integrity, and functionality of the Vana Layer 1 blockchain. They ensure that data transactions are properly validated, recorded, and added to the blockchain.

Validators play two distinct roles within the Vana network:

• L1 Validators, who ensure blockchain security and consensus.
• Satya Validators, who specialize in validating data contributions in DataDAOs through secure, trusted execution environments (TEEs).

Validators are rewarded in VANA tokens for their contribution to the network’s operation, with distinct reward mechanisms for L1 Validators and Satya Validators.

Summary

L1 Validators:

• Minimum Stake: 35,000 $VANA per validator.
• Initial Set: 64 validators at launch, scaling to 128 over time.
• Rewards: Validators receive 5 $VANA per block. Rewards reduce annually by 10% to ensure sustainability.
• Slashing: 10% penalty for malicious behavior or significant downtime (>12 hours per epoch).

Satya Nodes:

• Role: Provide Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) for secure data validation.
